February Craft

MAGNET BOARD
Craft Date : Thurs Feb 25th
Time: 6:30
Money is due to Natalie by Feb 10th
(see below for cost)

Hey ladies, this craft will require you to bring a lot of your own stuff, but hopefully that will make it personal, and it will fit well in YOUR home, and not just in MY home!!!

There are a few options for the size of Magnet Board you would like, so think about the space you'll be putting it in and order accordingly. This one is 18" x 18". Here are the options and the cost for each one:

The measurements are the INSIDE dimensions of the frame.

12" x 12" - $14.00

12" x 12 " carved - $15.00 - the carved frame is like the frame we did with Tara for the 'scrapbook picture frame'.

18" x 18" - $23.50

16" x 24" - $27.00

You will need to bring your own material, as well as creating all of your own magnets. Here are some ideas:

These are a bunch of antique buttons glued to magnets. I went to my grandmas and dug through her old button box and I love how they turned out!!! You could stop by an antique shop if you like the look of these, but I saw some photos online of some created with just some cute decent sized normal buttons, and they were super-cute too.

If you would like magnets like these 2, I can pick them up at the same time I pick up the wood. They are just carved metal, and are really cute, and pretty big-at least 2" across each.

They also have some seasonal ones - snowman, a snowflake, 3 leaf clover, some kissy lips -

Each of these magnets are $1.90, and that includes the magnet on the back.

One more idea for magnets is to get some clear stones, and mod podge cute paper to the back of them and then attach your magnet, like these:

I will also pick up any number of magnets you want.
1/2" magnets are $.25 each
1/4" magnets are $.20 each

I'm just going to hang mine like it is, but some other ideas for hanging are to drill a few holes and hang it with a long silk ribbon, or to hang it with a metal handle like this:

This is also how the 12" by 12" CARVED frame looks.

7" Handle - $3.50
9" Handle - $4.50
7" C Curve Handle - $6.50

Materials you need to bring:
Your own material, large enough to cover your board, plus a few inches on each side.
Paint that matches your material!!
Embellishments - Ribbon, a vinyl saying, paper cutouts etc. . .ANYTHING!!!
2 paintbrushes
paper plate, or something to put your paint on
Sandpaper
Stain
Gloves
Cloth to wipe stain
Hot Glue Gun if you've got it
E6000 glue if you've got it - I'll bring mine and am willing to share!!

P.S. - if anyone LOVES the look of this board and wants theirs to be exactly the same, I've got enough left-over paint and material and I'll even throw in the same brown ribbon!!! Call me and I'll let you give me a few bucks, and then you won't have to do your own shopping!!!

TEMPLE Craft....UPDATE!!

Hellooo Again!

I finally have an update for all of ya!! I have GOOD news and BAD news.....hmmmmm....which should I tell you FIRST?? OK - the good news is that we have a date SET and we are FOR SURE doing it!! The bad news?? I can't get them to reduce the price AND they have to add tax onto the price as well!

Seriously, I tried to "work" my mo-jo...and it just wasn't happening! Here are some quotes from the email Poppyseed's Rep sent me:

*Tax: We have to charge tax because we are selling a product.

*Instead of you getting the free picture and discounting everyone’s pictures: We are unable to do this because of the accounting and tax issues it creates.

I know, I know! I am SO sorry! I even talked to her on the phone to try to get her to SEE our way of thinking....her boss just wasn't willing to budge. If you aren’t able to do it at this price, I totally understand! If you are STIIIILLLLL in….

Here are the DeTaIlS:

Date: Wednesday, December 30th
Place: Primary Room @ Church
Time: 6:00 P.M.
Price: $48.92 ($46 + tax)
Due Date to Pay: December 12th
Email: flygirl165@juno.com

Please shoot me an email letting me know you are IN (AND which temple you want out of Salt Lake Temple, Bountiful, Timpanogas, Logan, Idaho Falls, St. George, & Manti) and I will email you back my address! Please mail your checks ASAP!! I have to HAVE all the checks by December 12th because SHE (Poppyseed’s Rep) needs the money by the 16th! Also – if you have never been to “our” church…I can email you directions as well.

After I complained to her about the price….AGAIN….she brought up a good point. If I were to purchase this at Deseret Book, etc….then I would be paying around $100 or more! Plus, how fun it will be to get together with girlfriends to make such a beautiful craft!

OH – and I REALLY liked this gal! We chatted over the phone and I am SURE she would be BFF’s with all of us! :) Tee, hee….

Click HERE to get to the last post about this craft. It states the dimensions and how long it will take, etc.

OK – questions that you girlies wanted me to ask her:

Q: Can they put a “saying” on the picture for you?
A: They are not able to do it at this time, but they may make this available in the near future. HINT: If you really want a “saying” – you could use vinyl!

Q: Can I paint the frame another color?
A: Of course! They will only provide black paint, so if you want your frame another color – you will need to bring the paint.

Q: Can we order the temple picture in a “landscape” format? (Ya know, how in Microsoft Word…you can print your document either Portrait or Landscape?!?)
A: The pictures they have on their site are the ones they have available through the photographer. You can order a different picture or angle directly through the photographer, but it is an additional $32 for the print.

Q: The frame looks like it has been sanded and stained – are we going to do that to ours?
A: Not during the class, but you can do it afterwards. They have found that the paint needs MORE time to dry before sanding and staining – otherwise the paint pulls off in strips. Once it has completely dried, you can stain, glaze, or lacker your frame BUT – you should completely cover the picture so it doesn’t get damaged.

K – I think that is everything! I am SUPER excited to do this! Becky (the Poppyseed Rep) got me SO freakin’ excited!! She LOVES hers….and I can’t wait to get one in MY home! I am excited to see everyone, too!! SO – email me ASAP….and don’t forget to tell me which temple you want!!

"BONUS" Craft Night...

Helllllllloooooo Ladies!!
I have an idea for a craft night RIGHT after Christmas (when Jamie & I will be in town)...
K....who's in???? I want to make this DAH-LING Temple Pic above...and I need to gather nine other girlies to do it with me!! Some of my girlfriends outside of crafting have already told me that they want in....but we need more girls! This company called Poppyseed Projects will teach US how to make it and they will bring all the materials as well! The cost per gal will be $46.

We will be in Utah around Christmas time...and I am planning on setting this all up AFTER Christmas. (Breathe a sigh of relief....it won't interfere with your hectic Christmas preparations...tee,hee...)

Here's some MORE info:

If you don't want to do the Salt Lake Temple...they also have the Bountiful, Timpanogas, Logan, Idaho Falls, St. George, & Manti Temples. The temple pic is 18" x 24" protected by a glassless finish and surrounded by a 4 1/2" chunky black frame. The total size is 26" x 32" - HUGE!!

The instructor will bring all of the supplies and will stay to teach the class. It should take 2-2.5 hours to finish. OH...and we will need someone to volunteer their house....since Jamie & I no longer have one there! :)

K....let me know if you want to make one and I will set everything up! They are pretty full for the Fall....so I would love to arrange everything for 'de winter months....probably in the days following Christmas.....before January hits! Jamie & I still need to figure out our entire Christmas "Vaca."

**EDITED TO SAY: I just found out that whoever sets it up....gets a free picture...BUT I was thinking that instead of MINE being free....we could take that $46 and make everyone's cheaper!! AND - if we can get even MORE than 10 girls together....I will see if they will take off even MORE money!! Never hurts to ask, huh!!

P.S. If you are "IN" - then let me know in the comments below. After I find out our schedule & more details from Poppyseed....I will get back with all of you!
